How To Decorate A Small Kitchen
Everyone wants a large kitchen to prepare their meals in and build a lifetime of
memories in; serving holiday dinners and creating meals that feed their family. However,
some homeowners may not be blessed with a large kitchen like what you see in
television so you just have to settle for the small kitchen that you have. Actually, you
can do the same thing in a small kitchen that you can do in a large one however, some
prefer to have added space in their kitchen for whatever reason.
If you do have a small kitchen, you can still get a large kitchen feel to it by doing some
simple easy to follow tips. While some helpful tips may have you remodeling your entire
down stairs, these tips are affordable and they can be done usually within a day or so.
If you decide to go along with a theme, you may want to use a theme that will be easy
for you to decorate with. The theme will vary depending on what you choose. It may be
retro, modern, country, log cabin, rustic, or something else that you like instead. Going
with a theme has it’s good points and its bad. You have worked hard for your collection
and you don’t want it stored in boxes in the attic. You want to display it proudly. It also
adds color and style to your kitchen decor.
First, you need to consider the color on your walls. The walls can make the room seem
smaller or larger than it is. Color is everything to a room. You can choose a white tint
or yellow tint. These two colors give the room a sense of feeling larger than it really is.
You want to keep the walls as simple as possible. Sometimes a border around the top
is acceptable as long as you don’t clutter the walls with special kitchen decor. Create a
simple look by placing one or two items on the wall. The rest of the wall should be left
blank.
Next, you want to have enough lighting for your kitchen. The more lighting you have the
brighter and larger it will seem. Any corners you have that does not have a light in it will
seem smaller. You can create a new look by placing a lamp, studio lights, over head
lighting, or a chandelier in the corner.
The floors need to also be kept as simple as possible. Don’t overcrowd the room with
wall-to-wall carpet. It is hard to keep the floor clean and you cannot add disinfectant to
the floor to kill the germs. Try adding oval area rugs or round braided area rugs to place in front of the
sink, stove, and refrigerator. You may also want to place a rug at the entrance into the
kitchen or outdoors from the kitchen.
When decorating the kitchen, you can add your favorite collectibles in a curio cabinet
that can hold them all. If you don’t have a place for them in the kitchen, consider moving
them into the dining room.
